Burberry celebrates the Year of the Snake

Honouring the Year of the Snake, Burberry introduces a capsule collection and a collaboration with the renowned Chinese artist Qian Lihuai.

Grounded in red, symbolic of luck and prosperity in Chinese culture, the capsule introduces a seasonal iteration of the Burberry Check, as well as a B snake motif to honour the new year. The collection features a wide array of wardrobing options including outerwear, a trench dress and jersey separates. Garments are also available in miniature proportions including a puffer jacket and seasonal check scarf.  Accessories, perfect for gifting, include scarves made in silk or cashmere, a leather wallet, hats and a bag charm.

To celebrate the collection, Burberry has partnered with Qian Lihua, one of the most influential bamboo-weaving artists in China. Weaving is intrinsic to Burberry’s heritage, from the innovative open and reticular weave of the signature gabardine to the unmistakable Burberry Check scarf. Hailing from a family with a rich history in bamboo weaving, Qian is known for bringing a contemporary nuance to the cherished, ancient craft.

Qian has crafted a collection of nine bamboo art sculptures for Burberry, the ‘Us’ series, which feature in a campaign starring actor and Brand Ambassador Zhang Jingyi and shot by photographer Walter Pfeiffer, as well as the windows of key flagships in China. Handwoven and shaped into abstract, serpentine forms, they stand as individual pieces with their own story yet interconnect to create a whole. They are bound together like the unbreakable ties of family, inseparable yet distinct in their individuality, embodying themes of love, care and support which are central to the Year of the Snake. The collaboration has also conceptually inspired store windows across the region.

‘I’ve always been drawn to Burberry’s signature patterns, and it struck me how the textures and colours have an extraordinary resemblance to the intricate designs found in bamboo weaving. It feels like a natural connection.’

‘The Year of the Snake is a new beginning – a moment to open a fresh chapter. For me, the best part of this time of year is gathering with loved ones, sharing good food and conversation, and soaking in the festive warmth. Shooting Burberry’s campaign gave me a similar sense of connection, especially collaborating with photographer Mr. Walter [Walter Pfeiffer] and the intricate bamboo art installations by artist Qian Lihuai. Creating unique festive memories with Burberry was an absolute joy!’
