Burberry has created its first in-house Cyber Security Apprenticeship Programme, in partnership with technology training organisation, QA, enabling colleagues in technical IT roles to further develop critical skills and deepen cyber security knowledge and expertise across its business.
Over the last 24 months, the graduates have shadowed the Burberry Cyber team as they engaged in robust, on-the-job training within their working week. Through a combination of high-quality classroom activities, online learning and practical experience, colleagues gained the technical know-how to solve crucial challenges including thwarting cyber-crime, decrypting data and untangling malware.
The professional apprenticeship is an alternative approach to gaining a Cyber Security qualification. By completing the programme, colleagues achieved the Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 apprenticeship, which incorporates a host of nationally recognised professional IT qualifications accredited through BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
“I am thrilled for those who have recently graduated from our first Cyber Security Apprenticeship Programme. With QA’s exceptional dedication and support, we have been able to offer our people a unique development opportunity in a critical and growing area experiencing major skills shortages. I’m excited about our plans to expand our offering and look forward to welcoming the next cohort of apprentices onto the programme.”

Chief Information Officer at Burberry
“The Burberry-QA Cyber programme is an excellent example of tech apprenticeships being used to reskill or upskill inhouse talent, retaining and developing valued employees and helping to narrow the gap in hard-to-find tech skills. With 30 million UK workers needing to be reskilled in digital by 2030, we expect to see growing demand for apprenticeships being used in this way. Congratulations to Burberry’s first Cyber cohort.”
